After a successful season of MasterChef, the pop up restaurant, MasterChef Dining & Bar presented by American Express has raised more than $36,000 for Australians in need.

Each night in Melbourne, all tips from the pop up restaurant were added to the running total that will now be donated to Foodbank, along with a generous contribution of $25,000 from American Express.

The money raised by the American Express Tip Doubler will help Foodbank provide more than 72,500 meals to Australians around the country relying on food welfare.

This donation could not be coming at a better time for Foodbank, with the End Hunger Report released last month revealing a 9% increase in the number of people seeking food relief in the past year.  Acting as a pantry for Australia’s welfare sector, Foodbank distributes the food it rescues to over 2,500 charities across the country which then provide it to people relying on food relief.

John Webster, CEO of Foodbank Australia, comments “Food insecurity is something that affects as many as one in 10 Australians, so this donation will help us to provide meals to those individuals, families and children who don’t always know where their next meal will come from. MasterChef and American Express have been great supporters of Foodbank, not just in raising this money for meals, but by helping us to raise awareness of the issue of hunger in Australia”.

MasterChef Dining & Bar ran in Melbourne from 1st October to 3rd November on the rooftop of Crown Casino in Melbourne.
