At a function held in Melbourne to mark Foodpro 2014, Foodbank and Wiley celebrated a new level of partnership aimed at raising awareness of the food crisis in Australia. Wiley will provide both financial support and expertise to assist Foodbank in the preparation of its annual food security survey.

Each year two million Australians, or 1 in 10, seek food assistance – around half of them children – and the number is growing at an alarming rate. It is no longer just the homeless and unemployed but increasingly the elderly, single parents and the working poor who are struggling to afford life’s basics.

In spite of this, awareness amongst the general public of the problem is still extremely low so to get the message out Foodbank releases an annual survey on World Food Day providing a snapshot of the size and scope of the issue.

This year Wiley will assist with this important project by providing professional resources in both the preparation and promotion of the report. This extends from production and design services to advice on how to make the most of social media channels to spread the word.

“It’s a credit to the work of the welfare agencies and the food industry that such critical work is being done below the radar, but if we are going to ask Australians to join the Foodbank movement, they must fully understand the depth of the issue” said Jason Hincks, Foodbank’s CEO. “For this reason we really value Wiley’s working with us to ensure our annual survey has impact and reach.”
