Christmas Appeal
In the heart of our community, there are hidden hardships that many of our neighbours face daily, but, with your help, we can create little miracles this festive season for families all around Western Australia.
This year, more families have reached out for our help than ever before. As West Aussies battle cost-of-living and life’s challenges, their savings and disposable income are dropping below their affordability line.
We know life can turn upside down in an instant. A job loss, rent increase or medical issue can mean families who never thought they would need Foodbank, suddenly do.
Bo-Anne’s is one of them. A single mum of three, like many parents, her world revolves around her children. Almost a decade ago her youngest, at just 20 months, needed a kidney transplant.
Bo-Anne’s world turned upside down. Caring for her son and two young daughters became her full-time job, pushing career stability out of reach.
Could you provide an extraordinary gift today to help ensure families like Bo-Anne’s can enjoy a family meal this Christmas?
I’m on a carer’s pension for my son who had a kidney transplant when he was 20 months old. He’s 11 now but there’s always some sort of sickness or illness that comes with it. It’s a 24-hour job, so to try and get in the workforce and be dependable, is quite hard.”
Bo-Anne was really struggling. But a visit to Centrelink and a referral to Foodbank started to turn things around.
Obviously you have the overheads of your housing first so when you get to food, it slides down that scale of the level of importance. It’s so hard because you have to make choices about what your kids are eating. I was really low, it was really taking a toll.”’

Foodbank gives you that ability to still give your kids healthy meals without sacrificing, being able to pay your other bills. It made a huge difference to us. I don’t even know where we’d be now.”
It wasn’t just the food that made a difference, it was a lifeline. By easing the pressure of food costs, Bo-Anne could start to think about solutions.
This Christmas, as you gather around your table with loved ones, could you extend your circle wider than ever before to include those in our community who face the hard choice between a meal and other essential needs?
Today Bo-Anne stands proudly in her own home, with the help of the single parent homeowner’s grant, a testament to her strength and the power of a helping hand. Bo-Anne has even started her own small home business creating gymnastics leotards, which started as a creative way to save money on her daughter’s hobby. Looking back at her sparkling kitchen, it’s hard to imagine the struggles she faced.

It’s because of generous supporters, like you, that we have been able to help West Aussies get the food they need for their families. Your donation will make a positive difference to Bo-Anne and a growing number of other Western Australian families.
Every day we help families, just like Bo-Anne’s.
There are 370,000 food insecure households in Western Australia. They are facing days without food, skipping meals or reducing quality or quantity to make ends meet. Families with children are the hardest hit. 51% of households experiencing food insecurity have children living at home.
For Bo-Anne, she came to Foodbank to make sure she has enough food for her children.
The cost-of-living was a struggle back then, it’s much worse now. I was treading water and didn’t know what to do before I found out about Foodbank. I remember my first shop was $85, the trolley was overflowing. I even had dog biscuits, and so many meals. It was such a relief. It would have easily been $300 or $400 at the shops. The staff were so helpful and made it really easy for me.”
Could you provide an extraordinary gift today to help fill the plates of West Aussies like Bo-Anne?
I can budget $100 for every 2-3 weeks for a shop at Foodbank and it really lasts. I’m so happy that my kids don’t have to go without.”
As the cost-of-living continues to rise, we are seeing 100 new households referred for help each day. Many, like Bo-Anne, never thought they would ever need to be asking for help.
That’s why we’re asking you to help us this Christmas. For every $1 you donate, we provide 2 meals to those who need it most.
There are many people like Bo-Anne who would be going hungry this Christmas without our help. Your donation today will help feed families this Christmas.
