Bushfire Relief Update

Foodbank is the only food relief organisation to play a role in the state’s disaster relief recovery groups. Our colleagues in Victoria, New South Wales, ACT and South Australia have been busy getting emergency supplies directly to communities impacted by recent bushfires.

You answered the call to help, throughout the week of 6 – 13 January more than 1,000 people visited our warehouse to donate much needed items for bushfire relief. In one week, you helped to fill more than 140 blue bins with food, water, hygiene products and pet food, all of which has been transported to the Foodbank NSW and ACT warehouse for further distribution to communities in need.

We’re incredibly grateful to individuals and businesses who volunteered to act as food donation points and for delivering the supplies to our warehouse. We couldn’t have achieved this result without your help.

A special thank you for the ongoing support from the All Purpose Transport teams for their assistance in picking up donations from the 20 Retail First Shopping Centres around Brisbane. The team helped to deliver donations as well as provide storage for the additional donations. Thanks to All Purpose Transport, we were able to continue with our day-to-day business, as well as support with ongoing bushfire relief.

We’re also preparing for floods in Far North Queensland and are continuing to support those communities impacted by the ongoing drought, which continues to devastate so many parts of the state.

For every dollar you donate, we can turn into $6 worth of food and groceries thanks to our network of donors, growers and retailers. Your donations allow us to be flexible, timely and cost effective, ensuring that we can supply specific items to aid and support recovery.
