This year Foodbank Queensland has experienced an increase in can drive participation helping those in their community experiencing food insecurity.

With approximately 40 schools, early learning centres, and more than 60 businesses having taken part in collections this year alone it is touching to know that there are so many willing to help out those who have fallen on hard times.

In line with Anti-Poverty Week our friends at the Public Trustee were kind enough to organise an internal food drive across their 16 offices here in Queensland. Collecting from the 9th of October through to World Food Day 17th October –more than 55 boxes sent out to these locations to celebrate and promote worldwide awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger and for the need to ensure food security and nutritious diets for all.

“We are pleased to be able to support such a worthy cause. I commend Foodbank for its ongoing commitment to those in need,” said Peter Carne, The Public Trustee of Queensland.

From those who were on the receiving end of their kindness and generosity we would like to thank you for your efforts and support in helping to fight hunger in Queensland.

Many thanks to those involved in drives for 2017, we would like to acknowledge those involved in collections over the past few months. – Tip Top – Coles – Olam Group – HWL Ebsworth.

With Christmas Can Drive season upon us we have been hard at work setting up new collections and re-enaging with those who have collected in previous years. One of the newest campaigns for this year is the Commissioner’s Gift Drive set up through the Queensland Police Service. Internally staff will be collecting from multiple police stations and establishments throughout Queensland.

“In 2017 the Queensland Police Service (QPS) is celebrating 25 years of the commissioner’s gift Drive. It is with great enthusiasm we have entered into this partnership with Foodbank to assist over 580,000 Queenslander’s who are currently living in poverty. The QPS is committed to helping Queenslander’s doing it tough this Christmas and in support of Foodbank, we have established a number of food collection locations throughout the state.”

We also have Dexus, one of Australia’s leading real estate groups, collaborating with their customers for the “12 Days of Christmas Foodbank Can Drive” this festive season. They will be encouraging participation with each tenancy given a ‘Santa Sack’ for collections. Sites involved are – 12 Creek Street and 10 Eagle Street. Assistant Property Zhenya Birch states “Dexus are excited to be collaborating with our customers and Foodbank on such a worthwhile initiative”.
