Foodbank Queensland Appoints Sam Evans as Chief Executive Officer

Foodbank Queensland has appointed Sam Evans as its new Chief Executive Officer, with Ms Evans commencing on Monday, 27 July 2026.  

Ms Evans joins Foodbank Queensland with extensive CEO, senior executive and board experience across commercial, government and for-purpose organisations. Her career has included leading complex organisations, strengthening financial sustainability, building organisational capability and delivering outcomes for communities experiencing disadvantage.  

She has also worked extensively across housing, disability and community services, giving her a deep understanding of how housing insecurity, financial stress and food insecurity can compound for people experiencing hardship.  

Foodbank Queensland Chair Mike Hill said Ms Evans’ appointment marked an important new chapter for the organisation.  

“Sam’s experience across housing, disability services and community focused organisations gives her a practical understanding of the pressures facing Queenslanders experiencing hardship, including the connection between housing insecurity, financial stress and food insecurity. 

“She joins Foodbank Queensland at the right time to lead the organisation into its next chapter, with a clear focus on strengthening food supply, sustainability and community impact.”  

Incoming CEO Sam Evans said she was honoured to be joining Foodbank Queensland and looked forward to working with staff, volunteers, partners, supporters and community organisations across the state.  

“Foodbank Queensland plays a vital role in supporting communities across our state, and I am honoured to join the organisation at such an important time,” Ms Evans said.  

“Throughout my career, I’ve worked alongside people and communities experiencing significant hardship. I’ve seen how rising rent and one unexpected bill can be the difference between a family managing, and a family going without. That’s why the work of Foodbank Queensland matters so much. Food relief is often what carries a family through until the rest of their life stabilises. No one should have to wonder how they will put food on the table.”  

“I look forward to working alongside staff, volunteers, supporters and the community to build on Foodbank Queensland’s 30-year legacy. Together, we can ensure no Queenslander experiences hunger.”  

Mr Hill said Ms Evans would lead Foodbank Queensland as the organisation strengthened its operating model following a challenging year.   

FY26 was a challenging year for Foodbank Queensland, with increased community need, lower than expected income, rising cost pressures and changes in food supply creating pressure across the organisation. While navigating these pressures, the organisation finished the year providing 17.8 million meals and 1.7 million breakfasts to Queenslanders in need.  

As Foodbank Queensland looks ahead, the Board and leadership team are focused on strengthening food supply, building long-term sustainability and ensuring the organisation can continue supporting communities across the state.
