We source and distribute meals across Queensland supporting charities, schools and communities in need.

Source Food

Foodbank Queensland rescues surplus food from farmers, retailers and manufacturers, nutritious groceries that would otherwise go to waste. To meet growing demand, we also bulk buy pantry staples like rice, pasta and canned goods. Thanks to strong supplier networks, every $1 invested returns $2 in food retail value – helping us fill critical gaps and ensure Queenslanders doing it tough have access to the food they need.

Distribute Food

Each week, we support 135,000 Queenslanders in crisis and provide breakfast to 52,000 children each school week. We work in collaboration with 320 Community Partners and 510 Schools. Every year, we provide 10.3 million kilograms of food and groceries to our community. With the help of our supporters, we rescue food that would otherwise go to waste, saving water, cutting emissions and protecting our planet.

While our food relief and food rescue are vital, our vision goes further. Through place-based initiatives, we work alongside communities to strengthen local food systems that are fair, resilient and inclusive. Together, we’re creating lasting change and helping address 8 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

What We Do In Queensland

We are Queensland’s largest hunger relief charity. Our vision is a Queensland without hunger.

We believe that access to healthy food is a basic human right. Each week, we support 135,000 Queenslanders in crisis and provide breakfast to 52,000 children each school week. We work in collaboration with 320 Community Partners and 510 Schools. Alongside food relief, we rescue surplus food that would otherwise go to waste, reducing landfill and protecting the environment. We’re also focused on long-term change, partnering with communities to build fairer, more resilient local food systems.

Foodbank Townsville

In April 2025, Foodbank Queensland opened our Townsville Food Distribution Centre. This new hub strengthens our ability to deliver food relief across North Queensland, ensuring Community Partners and schools can access fresh produce, pantry staples and essential groceries to support Queenslanders doing it tough.

Feeding Queensland Kids

Too many children and families face food insecurity. That’s why Foodbank Queensland, in collaboration with other food relief agencies, is working in Bundaberg, Ipswich, and Mornington Island to help communities co-create local food security solutions. Through Community Food Coordinators and Working Groups, we support year-round efforts to improve access to nutritious food and build long-term community resilience.

Hunger in Queensland
