Community Partner Story
Citipointe Community Care
Since opening its doors in 2021, Citipointe Community Care in Carindale has helped countless members of the community through some of life’s toughest times.
Their team works hard, collecting fresh produce and pantry staples from Foodbank Queensland five days a week to ensure local families have access to nutritious food when they need it most.
Powered by more than fifty dedicated volunteers, the Citipointe Community Care Marketplace provides food hampers, fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, cereal and pantry staples to people across Brisbane, with bread and vegetables available at no cost.
They also offer ready-made FareShare meals in their hampers and cater for a range of dietary requirements, including gluten-free options, all part of their dignified food relief service. Essential hygiene and cleaning products are also available to those in need.
This service is supporting a growing number of people experiencing hardship across the community. From young families and pensioners to individuals facing unexpected challenges, people from all walks of life are turning to Citipointe Community Care for support. Sam, a Support Officer at the Marketplace, shared a story of a grandmother who found herself in unexpected circumstances.
“Last year there was a grandmother who had her grandson dropped at her doorstep, so she came in for a bit of extra food,” he said.
Stories like these are becoming increasingly common as the cost of living continues to place more pressure on households across Queensland.
As demand for food relief grows, community organisations are feeling the strain too, making partnerships like the one between Foodbank Queensland and Citipointe Community Care vital in ensuring support remains available for those who need it most.
“It’s getting harder for people to survive. That’s why we’re here, to combat that,” he stated.
In the past year alone, more than 200 tonnes of food was distributed through the organisations three marketplace locations.
Sam shared, “the church did 2,500 hampers over Christmas, and we referred a lot of people onto that.”
While food relief remains the core focus of the Marketplace, Citipointe Church provides much more than groceries.
Individuals can also access financial mentoring, support groups, care packs, toiletry hampers and Justice of the Peace services, ensuring people receive practical support alongside food assistance.
In addition to this, they also operate an op shop connected to the pantry, offering low-cost clothing, household items and furniture.
These wraparound services play a critical role in supporting the community. Services such as care packs and food assistance provide immediate relief to individuals facing hardship, while programs like financial mentoring equip people with the knowledge and skills needed to build long-term independence and reduce the risk of ongoing financial challenges.
Much of this important work is made possible by the marketplace’s team of volunteers, many of whom are not members of the church but are passionate about helping others in their community.
For Sam, helping people through difficult circumstances is what makes the role fulfilling.
As demand for food relief continues to increase, Citipointe Community Care is encouraging more community members to get involved. The service is currently seeking additional volunteers to help support its day-to-day operations and growing number of visitors.
