Who we are

Hello, we are Foodbank.

We believe everyone should have access to good quality food. We’re here for the everyday Australians who are going without.

We provide food relief to 2,844 frontline charities and 3,379 school breakfast programs. Last year alone, we sourced enough food for 92 million meals.

In the last 12 months, 3.4 million households in Australia struggled to put food on their table.

We are a not-for-profit, non-denominational, federated organisation operating in every state and territory in Australia. Foodbank Australia is the only Australian food relief organisation that is a certified member of The Global Foodbanking Network (GFN) which has members across six continents and more than 50 countries.

Food insecurity is a big problem, requiring a big coordinated response, and we rely on countless partners to do what we do.

Our national and state-based teams work with the entire food and grocery industry including farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers and retailers to source food and capture donations. We also collaborate with suppliers, manufacturers and transporters to produce key staple foods that don’t come in sufficient quantities via rescue channels.

To distribute the food, our state teams work with an army of volunteers to pick, pack and get the food to where it’s needed.

In spite of our best efforts, we estimate that we need 50% more food to provide enough for all the people seeking assistance. To try and bridge this gap, we rely on the generosity of individuals, businesses, community organisations, schools and all levels of government. Find out how you can support us in the fight against hunger.

Hold a food drive

Food drives are an ideal way for individuals, schools, clubs, organisations and companies to help supply the non-perishable items that are always needed by Foodbank. Hunger affects more than 152,000 South Australians and Territorians every month, with one third of them being children. They are families like yours, they might live in your street. But because they suffer in silence, you would never know.

Whether your Food Drive collects 6 items or 600, all donations will make a difference to someone’s life.

Fundraise for us

Turn generosity into action and help feed hope

Every dollar you raise provides 2 meals to an Australian going hungry

When you fundraise for Foodbank, you’re not just helping put meals on the table. You’re feeding hope, restoring dignity and helping vulnerable families and individuals find a way forward.

Fundraising is simple to start and makes a real impact. You can host a morning tea, run a marathon, launch a workplace challenge or come up with something of your own.

Join one of Foodbank’s fundraising events or create your own. Every action you take helps a struggling family find strength for tomorrow.

VOLUNTEER WITH FOODBANK

Volunteer With Foodbank

The Foodbank team is small and we rely heavily on teams and individuals who generously give their time to help us get food to the people who need it. We have different volunteer opportunities available in each state, if you would like to volunteer select your state below:

Volunteering your time is amazing

Foodbank SA & NT thrives on the dedication and contribution of over 650 volunteers who donate their time to support more than 150,000 people in need across South Australia and the Northern Territory and who rely on our services every month.

In the last financial year, our volunteers donated more than 130,000 hours of their time. We simply could not operate without volunteer support.

Volunteering with Foodbank SA & NT is an amazing opportunity contribute to and support your community, learn new skills and develop friendships with a welcoming team. We have a variety of roles available including:

Warehouse Volunteers

The Foodbank SA & NT warehouses are the bustling hearts of our organisation, where large donations of food and fresh produce are stored. Warehouse volunteers assist by packing orders, assisting welfare agencies with collecting orders, sorting groceries and packing fruit and vegetables.

Food Hub Volunteers

Food Hubs offer a dignified food relief shopping experience for those in need, set up to look like a general store.  Food Hub volunteers assist by welcoming and assisting people in need, processing their referrals on the computer system and stocking the Food Hub shelves.

Transport Volunteers

Foodbank Drivers are out and about representing Foodbank SA & NT. They assist by collecting donated food and groceries from donor companies and delivering to our welfare agencies, schools and Food Hubs.

Events and Fundraising Volunteers

Foodbank SA & NT attends and hosts a variety of exciting events each year. Event and Fundraising volunteers assist by helping raise donations of funds and food for those in need and raising awareness of the range of support programs Foodbank SA & NT has to offer.

Office Volunteers

The Foodbank SA & NT office is a welcoming environment where our friendly staff work away behind the scenes – allowing our services to tick along smoothly. Office Volunteers play a vital role in supporting staff to get their work done, and in turn get the food out to people who need it.

Become a financial partner

Our mission is to deliver the most food to the most Australians in need in the most efficient and effective way, and funding is essential to enabling Foodbank to continue to deliver on this. With efficiencies across our food partners’ supply chains, we increasingly need to find creative solutions to meet the ongoing and growing need for food relief in our country, and the reality is that we require funds to do this.

Fortunately, through our fantastic relationships across the food and grocery sector we are able to stretch every dollar donated with Foodbank; nationally we are able to turn every $1 into $6 worth of food.

As a financial partner, we will work with you to tailor a partnership that is mutually beneficial and includes access to unique partner benefits. These benefits can include volunteering and other staff engagement opportunities, a Foodbank speaker at a major event/meeting, access to our research reports, case studies and impact updates to share with your team.

Is your organisation able to help contribute financially to help fight hunger in Australia? We’d love to hear from you! Get in touch with our partnerships team today to discuss.

Become a Food and Grocery partner

Our mission is to deliver the most food to the most Australians in need in the most efficient and effective way, and our partners are essential to enabling Foodbank to continue to deliver on this. We simply do what we do without the generosity of our wonderful partners.

We’re fortunate enough to be able to stretch every dollar donated to Foodbank into even more food; on average we are able to turn every $1 donated into the equivalent of $5.16 worth of food for our end recipients.

Delivery of apples

We can do this by accepting a wide range of products:

  • Everything in a supermarket with the exception of alcohol and tobacco
  • Product in any format, from retail packaging to loose in bins or bulk bags
  • Product within Best Before or Use By Date
  • Product that has been deleted or marketing concepts that didn’t quite hit the mark
  • Product that may be over or under weight, incorrect labeling, incorrect or faulty packaging,
  • Surplus product to your requirements or without a market
  • Private label product

If it’s still fit for purpose, then chances are – we would love to accept it.

Another way to get involved is via our world leading Collaborative Supply Program. We work with ingredient providers, packaging suppliers and transport operators to produce a regular supply of rice, pasta, pasta sauce, fresh milk, cereal and sausages for Foodbank charities throughout the year.

Is your organisation able to help us end hunger in Australia? We would love to hear from you.

Workplace Giving is living proof that small change can make a big difference

Your donation will help families across Australia

Workplace Giving is a simple and effective way for employees to regularly donate to charities or organisations that are entitled to receive tax-deductible donations.

Putting in place a Workplace Giving Program in support of Foodbank, is an easy and rewarding way to support the elimination of hunger in Australia.

Easily set up through your payroll system, employees make regular donations from their pre-tax pay. Generally, the donation amount is a fixed amount deducted from your employees’ salary or wages on each payday. You then pay the donation directly to the charity.

Workplace Giving funds are not used for administration – every dollar is utilised to generate additional food through our Partner With Us Program.
