Natural disaster relief

Foodbank plays a vital role in times of emergency and natural disasters such as fires, flood and cyclones.

Across the country, Foodbank provides essential supplies, including food, water, groceries and cleaning products to support the work of first responders and emergency services.

Foodbank will work hard to help you in a natural disaster

How does Foodbank help?

Whether people are coping with damaged or destroyed homes or disrupted income due to their place of work being closed, economic hardship remains a challenge after the clean-up. We continue to work in a community long after the initial crisis has passed, for as long as needed until people get back on their feet.

As a trusted organisation forming part of the official emergency response network, we act as a conduit for the generosity of the food industry. We deliver what is needed, when and where to efficiently and effectively support the relief efforts.

When the emergency first hits, there may be items such as bottled water, batteries, toilet paper and food that don’t require refrigeration and cooking as there is no power in the area. Over time this may change to ingredients for hot meals to be prepared at evacuation centres and hampers of key staples and household cleaning products for people returning to their homes.

Workplace giving

Our Workplace Giving Program provides an easy way to support Foodbank TAS through regular, tax-deductible donations from your pay.

By getting involved you can help to ensure our vital food relief services continue, providing affordable food, groceries and essentials to Tasmanians going without.

Why donate through workplace giving?

Rather than donate one larger amount, you can set up donations through your employer’s payroll system and make multiple small donations over the year to help improve food access in the community. Some employers will even match donations dollar-for-dollar! Workplace giving in TAS is easy to set up, and all donations are deducted from your pre-tax salary. This means you receive the tax benefit immediately and there’s no need to request receipts for tax purposes later.

Reducing Food Waste

Australia produces enough food to feed everyone three times over yet we waste 7.6 million tonnes of food each year. We continue to advocate the Federal Government to adopt a National Food Donation Tax Incentive.

Making Food

We can’t rely on our ‘surprise chain’ to fill our shelves with key staples so we work with the whole supply chain to produce every day essentials like pasta, pasta sauce and sausages with separate components all donated.

We truly value all our generous supporters and donors. There are many ways your organisation can support the work we do. We’d love to hear from you, so get in touch with our partnerships team today!

Our state donors

We couldn’t help everyone without the help of our generous financial and in-kind supporters

Our national donors

Foodbank receives food and grocery donations from over 1,800 companies around the country, from multi-national corporations to small local businesses.

Donate services to help people in need

Foodbank is fuelled by volunteers of all kinds

One of the wonderful benefits we are able to provide our partners is access to team volunteering opportunities nationally. Our volunteers are critical to delivery of our programs every day. With the help of volunteers we make a difference in the community.

Volunteering can range from picking and packing food orders in our warehouses through to skilled volunteering in our offices.

Volunteering at Foodbank means you’ll make a meaningful contribution, gain new skills or put old ones to good use, meet new people and help us distribute much needed food relief.

Hunger in Australia

The reality of hunger in Australia

3.4 million households across Australia are facing food insecurity. This means families are reducing the quality, variety, or desirability of their food, and at worst, running out of food entirely.

Sadly, more than half of food-insecure households are enduring the most severe level of hardship. This means they are often skipping meals, reducing portion sizes or even going entire days without eating.
