Interested in implementing the School Breakfast 4 Health program at your school? Here’s everything you need to know to launch a successful breakfast program.

Our program is more than just a meal, find out more about how a program is supporting students everyday:

Many students may arrive at school without breakfast, which can affect concentration and learning. By offering a nutritious start to the day, we help students arrive ready to focus and succeed.

A reliable breakfast program can also improve school attendance. Research shows that students who eat breakfast have improved memory, concentration and problem-solving skills, all of which contribute to higher academic performance.

The School Breakfast 4 Health Program fosters a warm, welcoming environment where students can enjoy a meal together, develop social skills and gain life skills like cleaning up after meals. It’s a chance for students to connect, creating a positive sense of community and inclusion.

Foodbank community partners are crucial to fighting hunger

In NSW and the ACT, we provide food to more than 1,400 community partners and schools, ranging from large service providers like the Salvation Army and St Vincent de Paul to small neighbourhood and community groups.

Once our community partners receive food and grocery items from Foodbank, they distribute these items to their local community by providing affordable groceries, emergency hampers, prepared meals, community kitchens, and food preparation classes.

Sustainable development goals

Foodbank plays a vital role in helping Australia deliver on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — a global blueprint to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all.

Our work directly supports five of the 17 goals:

We support people experiencing hardship by providing essential food relief. We work with charities and schools across Australia to help build stronger, more resilient communities. By reducing the pressure of food insecurity, we help lessen the impact of poverty and give people the support they need to get back on their feet.

Foodbank is Australia’s largest hunger relief organisation. Our mission is for a hunger-free Australia. We work with the entire Australian food and grocery industry to source and distribute food to ensure everyone has access to good food. Achieving zero hunger is key to improving health, education and equality.

Food insecurity doesn’t discriminate and impacts many people in our communities. Our work helps bridge the gap by supporting those doing it tough, have access to good, culturally appropriate food.

Australian produces enough food for the population three times over. We rescue and divert from landfill, perfectly edible food and groceries from farms and growers to manufacturers and retailers. We are advocating the Federal Government to apply a National Food Donation Incentive.

Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. We work with growers, producers, charities, schools, governments and corporate partners to share resources and deliver real impact.

HUNGER IN AUSTRALIA

The Foodbank Hunger Report 2024 revealed that 3.4 million households in Australia have run out of food in the last year.

Here at Foodbank, we provide essential food and grocery relief to over one million Australians experiencing food insecurity every month. We collaborate with the entire Australian food and grocery sector, including farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers, and retailers, who donate and redirect surplus products to us. Our mission is to end hunger in Australia.

Become a financial partner

Our mission is to deliver the most food to the most Australians in need in the most efficient and effective way, and funding is essential to enabling Foodbank to continue to deliver on this. With efficiencies across our food partners’ supply chains, we increasingly need to find creative solutions to meet the ongoing and growing need for food relief in our country, and the reality is that we require funds to do this.

Fortunately, through our fantastic relationships across the food and grocery sector we are able to stretch every dollar donated with Foodbank; nationally we are able to turn every $1 into $6 worth of food.

As a financial partner, we will work with you to tailor a partnership that is mutually beneficial and includes access to unique partner benefits. These benefits can include volunteering and other staff engagement opportunities, a Foodbank speaker at a major event/meeting, access to our research reports, case studies and impact updates to share with your team.

Is your organisation able to help contribute financially to help fight hunger in Australia? We’d love to hear from you! Get in touch with our partnerships team today to discuss.

Become a Food and Grocery partner

Our mission is to deliver the most food to the most Australians in need in the most efficient and effective way, and our partners are essential to enabling Foodbank to continue to deliver on this. We simply do what we do without the generosity of our wonderful partners.

We’re fortunate enough to be able to stretch every dollar donated to Foodbank into even more food; on average we are able to turn every $1 donated into the equivalent of $5.16 worth of food for our end recipients.

We do this by accepting a wide range of products:

Everything in a supermarket with the exception of alcohol and tobacco.
Product in any format, from retail packaging to loose in bins or bulk bags.
Product within Best Before or Use By Date.
Product that has been deleted or marketing concepts that didn’t quite hit the mark.
Product that may be over or under weight, incorrect labeling and/or incorrect or faulty packaging.
Surplus product to your requirements or without a market.
Private label product.

If it’s still fit for purpose, then chances are – we would love to accept it.

Another way to get involved is via our world leading Collaborative Supply Program. We work with ingredient providers, packaging suppliers and transport operators to produce a regular supply of rice, pasta, pasta sauce, fresh milk, cereal and sausages for Foodbank charities throughout the year.

Is your organisation able to help us end hunger in Australia? We would love to hear from you.
