Working with
Manufacturers

The role of manufacturers
in food relief
We simply couldn’t provide the assistance we do without our partners across the food and grocery industry, including the packaging suppliers and food manufacturers.
We work across the entire food and grocery manufacturing industry to capture donations of ambient, fresh, chilled, frozen foods, as well as household and personal care products. We receive products for all sorts of reasons and at different stages throughout the manufacturing process.
Through our partnerships we are able to stretch every dollar donated to Foodbank into more food.

When working with manufacturers, Foodbank can accept a wide range of products, provided they are fit for purpose. These include:
- Bulk ingredients
- Product from test runs or end of production runs
- Product that is out of specifications
- Product close to expiry or inside minimum life requirements
- Product with damaged or incorrect packaging
- Underweight product
- Deleted product lines
- Marketing concepts that didn’t make it to market
- Surplus product or produce without a market, including private label products
Even raw or bulk ingredients that are slightly out of spec or surplus can be put to good use. Foodbank redirects these to charities with cooking facilities such as shelters, community kitchens and dining halls, ensuring nothing goes to waste.

Why manufacturers partner with Foodbank
Working with manufacturers goes beyond donating product. Many partners provide high-demand items as part of their corporate social responsibility commitments, or to help bridge the growing gap between supply and demand.
Some of our partners are also part of our world-leading Collaborative Supply Program, where together we produce a steady supply of essential staples like rice, pasta, pasta sauce, fresh milk, cereal and sausages. This program brings together food manufacturers, ingredient suppliers, packaging companies and transport providers — all contributing their part to deliver sustainable, reliable food relief.
