Community Food Centres

Something’s always cooking at our Community Food Centres in Ballarat and Morwell—literally.
Whether you’re whipping up a meal in our healthy pizza cooking classes, swapping gardening hacks, or just grabbing a free cuppa at the social café, there’s always feelgood stuff happening in these local hubs.
Built by Foodbank in partnership with Vic Government, these vibrant, large-scale centres are here for the 37% of regional households doing it tough especially in the hard-hit Gippsland and The Grampians. They’re warm, welcoming spaces created hand in hand with the community, for the community, located right inside the community. No more traveling hours to find food relief or a friendly face.
The vibe? Think fresh veggies, home-cooked meals, and good chats. People from all walks of life coming together to eat, shop, learn, grow, and connect—without spending a cent.
At the heart of it all: dignity, connection, and resilience. It’s food with a side of friendship, hands-on learning, and a whole lot of heart.
And we’re not just thinking small. Each centre has a 2000 square foot warehouse that helps us get fresh, chilled, and frozen food to local charities —especially when emergencies strike.
How we show up for our communities at our CFCs:
🛒 Food with dignity and choice – Fresh, chilled, and frozen food through our self-serve Community Supermarkets.
🤝 Cool local cafe – Delicious, healthy meals made with seasonal produce, barista made coffee, volunteering, and community programs that build strength and a sense of belonging.
🍳 Food smarts – Cooking classes and workshops to stretch budgets and boost kitchen confidence.
🚚 Local food distribution – We source and share food with charity partners and emergency relief agencies.
Who we help
Local community members – Anyone experiencing food insecurity or social isolation.
Charity partners – We supply food to local organisations who support vulnerable people in their communities.
Emergency response – The CFCs are equipped to act as dedicated food relief sites during times of crisis or natural disaster.
