GROUP WAREHOUSE VOLUNTEERING

Helping hands in our warehouse

Volunteers are integral to the day-to-day functions of our warehouse, and are the key ingredient in ensuring food relief is provided to families in need every day.

You and your team will be hands on in one of our warehouses, packing food for distribution to over 500 charities across Victoria.

We have options for varying team sizes at our Yarraville and Brooklyn warehouses as well as on board our Mobile Supermarket Bus.

If you’re a corporate group looking to make a huge impact, book now!

Foodbank Victoria is on the move!

We’re relocating our Yarraville Warehouse to a larger, safer, more modern facility at 441-459 Kororoit Creek Road, Altona where we can better support our people, partners, and the communities we serve. We’re taking bookings at our Yarraville Warehouse up until Tuesday 18 November, and expect to welcome Corporate Volunteers into our new home at Altona from Monday 1 December – can’t wait to welcome you there!

Bookings for our Brooklyn Warehouse and the Mobile Supermarket Bus are not impacted by this change.

What you need to know

You and your team will be hands on in one of our warehouses, packing food for distribution to our charity partners across Victoria. Depending on the day, your team could be picking and packing food orders, hamper packing, relabelling or sorting food donations. You’ll have a chance to use our scanning equipment, operate a pallet jack, or work across one of our hamper packing lines.

At the end of your shift, we celebrate the total impact your team has had, both in kilos packed and sorted, and number of meals that will go directly to people in need. We’ll also share a selection of images of your team at work during the day.

We can accommodate various group sizes across our warehouses.

If you’re looking for an option for a team of 4-5 people, check out our Mobile Supermarket Bus.

Your financial contribution is vital to help us source and distribute food to families who are currently struggling to put meals on the table.

Due to demand, each organisation can book a maximum of 4 volunteer shifts per year. If your organisation is looking to book more than 4 dates, please contact us to discuss partnership opportunities at CorporatePartnerships@foodbankvictoria.org.au.

Bookings can be made via our online booking calendar. Online bookings close 2 weeks prior to the day.

Payment can be made via credit card at the time of booking, and a tax receipt will be issued to you by email with your booking confirmation.

Alternatively, a tax invoice will be sent to you with your booking confirmation with 30-day payment terms. Payment is required via direct deposit.

Corporate Volunteer experiences are considered a service by the ATO and therefore we cannot issue a donation receipt.

Volunteers are crucial to the operations of our warehouse. If you are unable to meet your commitments please let us know as early as possible and we will endeavour to find an alternative date.

Late cancellations or failure to attend impacts our operations as we must employ a labour hire team to ensure we continue to provide vital food relief to Victorians in need. Therefore, we appreciate as much notice as possible if you need to cancel your booking.

  • A 50% fee is applied to cancellations within 21 days of your volunteer booking
  • A 100% fee is applied to cancellations within 14 days of your volunteer booking.

Each organisation can book a maximum of 4 volunteer shifts per year. We reserve the right to update the cancellation policy in the event multiple bookings (above 4) are made.

Yarraville Warehouse: 4/2 Somerville Road, Yarraville.

Our Yarraville Warehouse is located within an industrial complex. Enter the complex at the intersection of Somerville Road and Whitehall Street.

There is free all-day parking onsite. If you can’t find a park onsite most of the surrounding side streets have all day parking.

If you’re catching public transport, our warehouse is a 15 minute walk from the Seddon or Yarraville train stations.

Altona Warehouse: 441-459 Kororoit Creek Road, Altona.

Our Altona warehouse is located within an industrial complex. There’s limited free all-day parking onsite, so we encourage teams to car-pool.

Brooklyn Warehouse: Building G4, 77 Millers Road, Brooklyn

Our Brooklyn Warehouse is located towards the rear of the industrial complex. Enter via Gate 5 off Millers Road. There is limited parking available at the rear of the warehouse. Please enter the warehouse through our Volunteers entrance at Door 2. If you’re catching public transport, buses 411, 412 and 903 stop nearby on Millers Road.

If your organisation is a Government Department or local community group, you may be eligible for a free volunteer opportunity.

Free volunteering opportunities become available during peak periods or when we receive a high volume of donations. They are ad hoc, and dates become available roughly four weeks in advance.

Please register your interest below if you would like to be contacted when a slot becomes available.

Alternatively, you can select and book a specific date from our corporate bookings calendar noting standard costs will apply.

If you are a school looking to get involved, please visit our website here for more information.

Due to the physical nature of warehouse volunteering, tasks involve significant amounts of manual handling, including lifting/bending, twisting/turning, repetitive movements and standing for extended periods of time.

Please consider if this activity is right for you.

We do not allow volunteers to participate if we determine they are unable to perform the tasks safely and do not have alternative activities available on the day.

Bring your lunch

We have a fridge, microwave and tea/coffee facilities. There are no cafes nearby our warehouses, so let us know if your team would like catering – we’re happy to recommend some great local options.

Bring socks

For your safety we provide steel capped boots and gloves which are mandatory to wear. Please bring long, thick socks to wear with the boots. Alternatively, if you have your own steel capped boots you can BYO.

Wear comfortable clothing

Wear clothing that is suitable for bending, lifting and repetitive movements. Shorts/pants/leggings/jeans with a comfortable t-shirt and jumper is recommended. The temperature inside the warehouse is generally the same as outside. We do not have air-conditioning or heating in the warehouse.
