Takeaway has never meant so much. To merchants. And to people in need.

As many charities shut shop due to COVID-19, holes are opening up in our food relief network. Which is why Foodbank has partnered with Y Waste, to make it easy for food merchants to give free takeaway meals, made from surplus stock, to people facing hardship in the community.

How does it work?

A food merchant has perfectly good meals that they cannot sell and want to donate to someone in need. They put a notice on the Y Waste App.

A charity knows of someone who is in need of food assistance. It provides them with a special code to use in the Y Waste App.

The person downloads the Y Waste App onto their smart phone and registers using their special code so they can see the donated meals available in their area and claim one.

The person goes to the outlet during the time specified by the merchant and collects their meal by showing the receipt on their phone.
