“I was taught that food should never be wasted”

I grew up with European parents who had both experienced real, prolonged hunger and not knowing where the next meal was coming from during WWII. As a result, I was taught that food should never be wasted and that the availability of food should never be taken for granted.

“I was shocked at the poverty in our ‘lucky’ country”

I produce food for a living and it still makes me so angry when I see it wasted. I love the thought of reducing waste or putting it to good use. When I got involved in Foodbank, I was shocked at the poverty in our ‘lucky’ country and felt I had to do something.

“I wanted the opportunity to give something back”

As a father of three boys I couldn’t conceive of sending them to school hungry, yet that is the fact for so many families. I was shocked at the extent of the issue of hunger, so when I retired from a full time executive role, I wanted the opportunity to give something back.

“I want to help Foodbank make an even bigger impact”

I love that Foodbank is the backbone supporting hundreds of welfare charities, serving people who are doing it tough in our own backyard and helping people to get back on their feet. I want to help Foodbank make an even bigger impact by sharing my knowledge and experience.

“I want to be a voice for regional and remote communities”

I was invited to join the Board of Foodbank NSW & ACT through my association as a Community Engagement Coordinator with Joblink Plus, working closely with Foodbank NSW & ACT, allowing community members to gain access to fresh produce and to get fresh produce to remote communities in need.

I aim to make a difference by communicating the needs of those living in low socioeconomic areas where the needs for food sustainability are not being met.

“I want to use my skillsets where they matter”

I grew up in a single-parent household. My mum raised two girls and often worked three jobs to make ends meet.  I now count myself lucky to be in such a fortunate position, so I hope that I can use my people and culture expertise to help Foodbank nurture a strong and purpose-driven workforce that continues to grow well into the future.

I came from humble beginnings and our meals were basic, but they were about more than just sustenance, they were about bringing people together. My professional career has made me aware that not all communities are able to enjoy meals together and that many go hungry. I wanted to be part of the team helping to tackle this and part of the solution.
