Alcoa: A partnership driving food relief in Peel
We are thrilled to announce that Alcoa has committed to sponsoring our Peel Branch for a further three years. This enables the purchase of a new Mobile Foodbank to expand the service across Pinjarra, Serpentine-Jarrahdale, Harvey, Waroona and Kwinana communities. The partnership will also allow us to expand our product range of pantry essentials as demand for food assistance continues to rise.
The continuation of this partnership showcases Alcoa’s commitment to supporting the needs of the Southwest Communities across the Peel region stretching from Kwinana to Harvey.
The transformative power of Alcoa Australia’s support through their initial three-year partnership -which has been evidenced by significantly enhanced food relief services across the Peel region. With a total Social Return on Investment of $2.55M, Alcoa has helped us to respond to rising food insecurity, expand its operational capacity, and innovate its service delivery.
Over the course of the initial three-year partnership, the Peel Branch has delivered more than 2.6 million meals, including 986,834 meals in the 2025 financial year, marking a 53% increase from June 2022 when the partnership began.
Thanks to Alcoa Australia, we distributed 3,003 emergency hampers to 20 agency partners across Waroona, Serpentine-Jarrahdale, Kwinana, Peel, and Pinjarra. Their partnership also funded essential new equipment including two forklifts and fridge and freezer, improving access to fresh and frozen goods and expanding food variety. Their generous funding also allowed us to pilot a successful weight-based handling fee model, now adopted by two other regional branches.
Alcoa’s commitment extended beyond funding, with staff volunteering in Perth warehouse and the Mobile Foodbank in Peel, packing over 3,000 meals and hampers in one day and also included a two-year sponsorship of the Peel Thunder Charity Game Day. In 2025 alone, this incredible event raised funds to provide 51,588 meals, helping us continue to raise awareness of food insecurity in our community.
Alcoa Australia’s support over the last three years has provided critical support to our Peel branch and surrounding communities in which we operate. We are incredibly thankful that they have supported our mission to get food to Western Australians who need it. Our work is vitally important, especially during this cost of living crisis. It is only with the support of corporate partners such as Alcoa Australia that we are able to continue to meet the increasing demand for our services.” said Foodbank WA CEO Kate O’Hara.
This partnership exemplifies the power of corporate-community collaboration by showcasing that with passion and determination we can build resilient and empowered communities together. We look forward to continuing this impactful relationship and expanding its reach across regional Western Australia.
