New routes for Mobile Foodbank
The Mobile Foodbank concept first launched in 2019 with four locations in the Perth metropolitan area and since then, has been a very welcome and very effective way to get food relief to individuals for who transport can be a barrier.
The cost of living, having the transport itself, and lately, the cost of fuel will prevent some people from being able to access our Perth Airport or regional branches.
Mobile Foodbanks now visit almost 30 locations weekly in the Perth metro area – from Rockingham in the south to Two Rocks in the north. Our first regional Mobile Foodbank started operating in Denmark from Foodbank Albany on a fortnightly basis, providing hampers to the Community Resource Centre a few years ago. Our regional locations now have 19 Mobile Foodbank routes established with expansion slowly rolling out to better support communities in need. We are also planning for further development and expansion, with the potential of adding additional routes by late 2025 or early 2026
We are happy to share that we have been working closely with the Serpentine Jarrahdale Community Resource Centre, which will soon become one of our newest location. The team at Serpentine Jarrahdale do amazing work supporting their local and surrounding communities, offering services such as: Foodbank referrals, mobile library location on Mondays, a Café (open Saturdays), second-hand book sales and homelessness support through their “We Care” initiative.
Another upcoming location will be Bethanie Esprit (Bethanie Eaton) – a Retirement Village supporting residents aged 60 to 99 years which currently supports 168 residents, with a sister site nearby hosting an additional 165 residents within walking distance.
Our are so pleased that our Mobile Foodbank will provide these communities with affordable everyday staples, proteins, frozen meals, and free fresh fruit and vegetables – making grocery shopping much more accessible for those who may find it difficult to reach local stores.
Additionally, our Mobile Foodbank product line has expanded with a variety of new products including beetroot, two-fruits canned fruit, plain and self-raising flour, vegemite, peanut butter, rice, pasta, cereal and tuna.
These items will complement our already popular packs which include snack packs, beverage packs, cereal packs, pasta packs and hygiene packs.
As part of our ongoing improvements, we have also enhanced the quality and freshness of the free fruit and vegetables we offer at all Mobile Pantry locations.
At Foodbank, we are committed to working together to offer all our customers a full range of essential pantry staples and a variety of affordable proteins. Our goal is to make it easier for individuals and families to complete their weekly shop at locations that are not only more convenient but also affordable – ensuring everyone has access to healthy and nutritious food.
