GROW

By turning surplus into support, Foodbank Victoria’s GROW Program is creating a world of good for people, producers and the planet.

Australia produces THREE TIMES more than enough food to feed our population. Yet, every year, more than 50 MILLION KILOS of fresh fruit and vegetables never leave our farms when supply exceeds demand.

That’s where GROW is making a real difference, supporting farmers and feeding communities across the state, in partnership with the Victorian Government.

For years, Foodbank has worked hand-in-hand with growers to source and rescue essential produce to help nourish Victorians. In 2025 alone, we delivered 5.3 million kilos of fresh fruit and vegetables to people in need.

GROW goes even further. Now, we’re also intercepting surplus at the farmgate, helping Vic farmers to find a home for the fruit and veg they’ve worked so hard to grow. And ensuring doing-it-tough communities across the state can enjoy the best seasonal produce in the world.

How does it work?

GROW works directly with farmers, identifying barriers and providing incentives to get excess fruit and veg off their farms.
GROW supports farmers and regional communities by providing a genuine secondary supply chain for their produce.
GROW creates a more sustainable food system, reducing environmental impact by saving more food at the farmgate.
By partnering with around 490 charities, GROW transforms surplus fruit and vegetables into nutritious meals for communities across the state.

Together, we ensure healthy food reaches every Victorian!
