Food Centre Volunteering

Helping hands in our Community Food Centres

Volunteers are integral to the day-to-day functions of our warehouse, and are the key ingredient in ensuring food relief is provided to families in need every day.

You and your team will be hands on in one of our Community Food Centres, packing and serving food for distribution to charities in regional Victoria.

We have options for varying team sizes at our warehouses as well as on board our Mobile Supermarket Bus.

If you’re a corporate group looking to make a huge impact, book now!

What you need to know

You and your team will be hand on in one of our Community Food Centres, packing food for distribution to our charity partners across regional Victoria.

Depending on the day, your team could be picking and packing food orders, sorting food donations or helping in our Community Supermarket. You may also help out in our Social Café, preparing and serving meals direct to members of the community.

At the end of your shift, we celebrate the total impact your team has made and the number of meals that will go directly to people in need. We’ll also share a selection of images of your team in action during the day.

Morwell Warehouse: 9.00am – 2.00pm Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays

4 – 6 people, $250 + GST

Your financial contribution is vital to help us source and distribute food to families who are currently struggling to put meals on the table.

Due to demand, each organisation can book a maximum of 4 volunteer shifts per year. If your organisation is looking to book more than 4 dates, please contact us to discuss partnership opportunities at CorporatePartnerships@foodbankvictoria.org.au.

Bookings can be made via our online booking calendar. Online bookings close 2 weeks prior to the day.

Payment can be made via credit card at the time of booking, and a tax receipt will be issued to you by email with your booking confirmation.

Alternatively, a tax invoice will be sent to you with your booking confirmation with 30-day payment terms. Payment is required via direct deposit.

Corporate Volunteer experiences are considered a service by the ATO and therefore we cannot issue a donation receipt.

Volunteers are crucial to the operations of our warehouse. If you are unable to meet your commitments please let us know as early as possible and we will endeavour to find an alternative date.

Late cancellations or failure to attend impacts our operations as we must employ a labour hire team to ensure we continue to provide vital food relief to Victorians in need. Therefore, we appreciate as much notice as possible if you need to cancel your booking.

  • A 50% fee is applied to cancellations within 21 days of your volunteer booking
  • A 100% fee is applied to cancellations within 14 days of your volunteer booking.

Each organisation can book a maximum of 4 volunteer shifts per year. We reserve the right to update the cancellation policy in the event multiple bookings (above 4) are made.

Morwell Warehouse: 477 Commercial Road, Morwell

Enter our Morwell Warehouse from Commercial Road and park to the left of the driveway, in front of the warehouse entrance.

If your organisation is a Government Department or local community group, you may be eligible for a free volunteer opportunity.

Free volunteering opportunities become available during peak periods or when we receive a high volume of donations. They are ad hoc, and dates become available roughly four weeks in advance.

Please register your interest below if you would like to be contacted when a slot becomes available.

Alternatively, you can select and book a specific date from our corporate bookings calendar noting standard costs will apply.

If you are a school looking to get involved, please visit our website here for more information.

Due to the physical nature of warehouse volunteering, tasks involve significant amounts of manual handling, including lifting/bending, twisting/turning, repetitive movements and standing for extended periods of time.

Please consider if this activity is right for you.

We do not allow volunteers to participate if we determine they are unable to perform the tasks safely and do not have alternative activities available on the day.

Bring your lunch

We have a fridge, microwave and tea/coffee facilities. There are no cafes nearby our warehouses, so let us know if your team would like catering – we’re happy to recommend some great local options.

Bring socks

For your safety we provide steel capped boots and gloves which are mandatory to wear. Please bring long, thick socks to wear with the boots. Alternatively, if you have your own steel capped boots you can BYO.

Wear comfortable clothing

Wear clothing that is suitable for bending, lifting and repetitive movements. Shorts/pants/leggings/jeans with a comfortable t-shirt and jumper is recommended. The temperature inside the warehouse is generally the same as outside. We do not have air-conditioning or heating in the warehouse.
