What we do

Ever wondered how Foodbank Victoria gets food to folks who need it most?

To feed thousands of people every day, you need a lot of food – along with a whole team of talented people and partners who are dedicated to sourcing and distributing that food. We’d love to introduce you to the programs that make it all possible!

Foodbank Victoria acts as the fridge and pantry to Victoria’s charity sector, providing for the state’s most trusted charities – including the Salvation Army and Vinnies. Through our network of nearly 500 charity partners across Victoria, we can reach people who need us most, delivering millions of kilos of food and other essentials every year.
Brekkie’s on us thanks to our School Breakfast Clubs Program, delivered in partnership with the Victorian Government. With more than 1,200 local Victorian schools playing their part, our School Breakfast Clubs Program provides free, healthy meals and programs to school kids right across Victoria – offering healthy breakfasts, nutritious lunches, snacks and take-home packs for students in need, and cooking classes for families.
We’re proud to run food programs that help us reach our community directly with the fresh, nutritious food they really need. Our mobile supermarket buses are just like your local supermarket, only on wheels – visiting suburbs right across Melbourne with ingredients to suit the cultural and nutritional needs of our community members, so they can “shop” for the fresh food and groceries they enjoy, for free! Each trip creates an incredible 3,636 meals. Our Farms to Families markets pop up monthly across metro Melbourne and regional Victoria to deliver enough fresh veggies, fruit, bread and milk to last families an entire week after just one shop. All within a warm, welcoming space where our communities can come together and connect.
Our two purpose-build Community Food Centres in Ballarat and Morwell have community at their core. Created in partnership with Vic Government, these centres are designed to celebrate and support our local communities through free food programs, community food markets, veggie gardens, and cooking classes. Thanks to these centres, we can distribute even more fresh, chilled and frozen food to our charity partners throughout these regions, meaning healthy food is there for people who need it. Right where they live. Transforming lives through food.

Our Values

Our Values guide everything we do – from how we show up for each other, to how we support our communities. At FBV, you will find a team that lives and breathes:

Fair is our fare. In our house, the right to say something sits right next to the rite of listening. Everyone is unique but treated the same.

You came here to make a difference, so we better let you do it!

Just because we’re a charity doesn’t mean it comes for free. In everything we do, we put our money where other people’s mouths are. For people to support us, trust is a must.

It’s how we talk and walk with each other. Top of mind is being kind. It can be learned and earned but never spurned.

Sounds kinda scary, but if you’ve thought about it, wrought about it and done your best… then you’ve probably nailed this one.

You’re free to be ‘me’, respectfully. We celebrate more than tolerate the many things that make us different but have brought us to the same place.

Our People

Our people come for a career and stay for the mission!

You will be joining a team of passionate, creative and dedicated individuals who go above and beyond to make a real difference. We champion a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone can be their authentic self, feel safe, supported, and inspired – all whilst helping us fight for a food secure future for all Victorians.

Our locations span across metro and regional Victoria, including Melbourne CBD, Altona, Brooklyn, Ballarat, and Morwell, but the warmth of our culture is unified across all sites.

Engagement

At Foodbank Victoria, our culture is the backbone of our success. Our culture is a part of who we are, how we work together, and how we interact with the communities we serve.

We believe in open and honest communication and in creating a space for continuous feedback and growth. Each year, we listen closely to our teams through Engagement Surveys – gaining valuable insights into what we’re doing well and where we can grow!

Safety

We are committed to creating a safe work environment where everyone works together to create happy, healthy, and productive workplaces.

Everyone deserves to feel safe and supported at work, and we work hard to ensure that’s the case across all of our sites.

Inclusion & Diversity

At Foodbank Victoria, we celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome.

We promote diversity through hiring practices, our people policies, and training and awareness initiatives.

Learning and Growth

We believe in growing great people, because when our people grow, so does our impact.

At FBV, you will have access to ongoing personal and professional development through structured Plans throughout the year, individual training pathways, and opportunities to stretch your skills and explore your potential. We celebrate achievements, support ongoing development, and create space for continuous improvement.

Reward & Recognition

We see the incredible contribution our people make and recognise the passion, effort, and impact they bring every day – and we make sure it’s recognised and celebrated.

Whether it’s big wins or everyday acts of care and commitment, we ensure we support and recognise our teams’ achievements.

School Breakfast Clubs Program

The most marvellous way to start the day, is giving our kids a brighter future.

Every morning, Foodbank Victoria is helping turn sleepy yawns into bright smiles and loads of energy to learn by delivering a free nutritious breakfast to hungry students, ensuring those who can’t access enough food outside school will never miss out on what they need.

Since teaming up with the Victorian Government in 2016, our School Breakfast Clubs Program has grown from 500 primary schools to over 1,200 schools across the state – including primary, secondary, P–12 and specialist schools. That’s 55 million meals served to date with care, kindness, and a whole lot of love.

Every school puts their own spin on School Brekky Club, but one thing they all have in common is a passionate commitment to creating a friendly, fun environment with plenty of delicious, healthy options where everyone feels welcome.

And we’re not stopping there! Thanks to new funding, we’re expanding even further – with every Victorian government school invited to join in by mid-2026.

Here’s what’s on the menu:

🥣 Healthy breakfasts delivered to schools to help students start their day with energy and focus.

🥪 Nutritious lunches, snacks and Home Food Packs for students who need a little extra support.

🍳 Family cooking classes at over 100 disadvantaged schools – because good food brings people together.

But Breakfast Club isn’t just about what’s on the plate. It’s about what happens around it.

🍎 Healthy choices made easy: Nutritious options are always within reach, helping everyone in the school community make better food decisions. (The menu is assessed by the Healthy Eating Advisory Service FoodChecker to make sure items comply with the Department’s Canteens, Healthy Eating and Other Food Services policy)

🧑‍🍳 Learning by doing: Kids get hands-on with cooking, nutrition, and food literacy—skills they’ll carry for life.

🤝 Together is better: Breakfast becomes a shared experience, where friendships grow and smiles are served daily.

🌱 Role models in action: Staff and volunteers lead by example, showing what healthy eating looks like in real life.

🎨 Student-powered: From designing menus to running the club, students help shape the experience.

🏡 Families welcome: Parents and carers join in too, cooking and learning alongside their children.

Child Safe Commitment

Foodbank Victoria acknowledges that each member of its team, and of the community broadly, have a responsibility to understand the important role they play in developing and maintaining a child-safe culture and an environment that ensures the wellbeing and safety of children and young people. Foodbank Victoria is committed to providing the resources and support to its team members and the community so that child safety underpins its operations on all levels.

As an organisation which provides services for children in Victoria, including the School Breakfast Clubs Program, Foodbank Victoria is fully committed to implementing and complying with all aspects of each of the Victorian Child Safe Standards, and therefore National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, within our operations.

You can view Foodbank Victoria’s Child Safe Policy here.
