Feeding 69,000 Victorians every single day.

Hello, we’re Foodbank Victoria.

Whether it’s everyday emergencies or in times of crisis, we’ve been providing vital food relief to vulnerable Victorians for over 95 years.

Through our network of over 1,200 schools and nearly 500 charities right across Victoria, we’ve distributed over 25 million meals in the last 12 months alone. Right now, we’re feeding 69,000 people every single day.

You could say we’re the fridge and pantry for some of Victoria’s most trusted charities – including the Salvation Army and Vinnies – working together to support those who need us most.

We’re also out on the road every week, so we can reach people in need directly with our fresh food markets and mobile supermarket buses. These programs mean families can come and collect enough fresh produce for an entire week – for free – allowing us to reach disadvantaged communities in each and every corner of Victoria. Our Community Food Centres in Ballarat and Morwell are also essential to making this possible, providing the critical missing link between Foodbank’s supply of healthy food, the work of our local charity partners, and those needing food relief throughout regional Victoria.

We believe that all Victorians should have regular access to healthy, culturally appropriate food. That’s why we work hand-in-hand with partners right across the food and grocery sector – from farmers and growers, right through to retailers – to source, rescue and purchase essential food and grocery items to help nourish our communities.

While supporting schools and charities across our network is at the heart of what we do, we’re also here when disaster strikes, as the state’s dedicated emergency food relief organisation. In times of crisis – whether it’s a bushfire, flood or pandemic – you can count on us to be here to help Victoria.

And we couldn’t do any of this without the support of our community. Every dollar donated is two meals created.

All we need is 3 minutes to show you all the work that goes on behind the scenes to help feed 69,000 Victorians every single day. Watch this video to see for yourself.

How do we get food out to 69,000 people every single day?

We're here to get good food to good people.

Here at Foodbank Victoria, our values aren’t just words on a wall – they’re the heartbeat of everything we do. They teach us how to lift each other up, how to create a workplace that feels like home, and most importantly – how to show up for our communities when they need us most.

Sustainable development goals

Foodbank plays a vital role in helping Australia deliver on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — a global blueprint to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all.

Our work directly supports five of the 17 goals:

We support people experiencing hardship by providing essential food relief. We work with charities and schools across Australia to help build stronger, more resilient communities. By reducing the pressure of food insecurity, we help lessen the impact of poverty and give people the support they need to get back on their feet.

Foodbank is Australia’s largest hunger relief organisation. Our mission is for a hunger-free Australia. We work with the entire Australian food and grocery industry to source and distribute food to ensure everyone has access to good food. Achieving zero hunger is key to improving health, education and equality.

Food insecurity doesn’t discriminate and impacts many people in our communities. Our work helps bridge the gap by supporting those doing it tough have access to good, culturally appropriate food.

Australia produces enough food for the population three times over. We rescue and divert perfectly edible food and groceries from farms and growers to manufacturers and retailers to stop it from going to landfill. We are advocating the Federal Government to apply a National Food Donation Incentive.

Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. We work with growers, producers, charities, schools, governments and corporate partners to share resources and deliver real impact.

HUNGER IN AUSTRALIA

The Foodbank Hunger Report 2024 revealed that 3.4 million households in Australia have run out of food in the last year.

Here at Foodbank, we provide essential food and grocery relief to over one million Australians experiencing food insecurity every month. We collaborate with the entire Australian food and grocery sector, including farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers, and retailers, who donate and redirect surplus products to us. Our mission is to end hunger in Australia.

Hold a Food Drive

Help fill Foodbank’s shelves – hold a food drive!

With thousands of Victorians relying on Foodbank’s support every day, it’s tough to source enough food to keep our warehouse shelves full – which is why every food drive makes a difference (big and small!)

Be a food hero and donate on your own, or rally everyone you know and kick off a food drive with your school, your workplace, or your local community group.

Some of our most in demand items are…

  • Canned fruit, vegetables, seafood, soups and meals
  • Breakfast cereal
  • Pasta, noodles and rice
  • Long life milk and juice
  • Coffee, tea and spreads
  • Muesli bars, dried fruit and nuts
  • Sauces, seasoning, cooking supplies like flour, oil and sugar
  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • Soap and deodorant
  • Dental floss, toothpaste and toothbrushes
  • Tissues and toilet paper
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Household cleaning items

All donations must be unopened, in their original packaging with full ingredient and allergen listing, and within their best before date. All food drive donations are sorted by our awesome team of volunteers and packed into mixed grocery hampers for our community – going onto feed thousands of Victorians.

Become a Food and Grocery partner

Delivery of apples

Our mission is to deliver the most food to the most Australians in need in the most efficient and effective way, and our partners are essential to enabling Foodbank to continue to deliver on this. We simply couldn’t do what we do without the generosity of our wonderful partners.

We’re fortunate enough to be able to stretch every dollar donated to Foodbank into even more food; on average we are able to turn every $1 donated into the equivalent of $5.16 worth of food for our end recipients.

We can do this by accepting a wide range of products:

  • Everything in a supermarket with the exception of alcohol and tobacco
  • Product in any format, from retail packaging to loose in bins or bulk bags
  • Product within Best Before or Use By Date
  • Product that has been deleted or marketing concepts that didn’t quite hit the mark
  • Product that may be over or under weight, incorrect labeling, incorrect or faulty packaging,
  • Surplus product to your requirements or without a market
  • Private label product

If it’s still fit for purpose, then chances are – we would love to accept it.

Another way to get involved is via our world leading Collaborative Supply Program. We work with ingredient providers, packaging suppliers and transport operators to produce a regular supply of rice, pasta, pasta sauce, fresh milk, cereal and sausages for Foodbank charities throughout the year.

Is your organisation able to help us end hunger in Australia? We would love to hear from you.

Volunteer your organisation’s time and skills

One of the wonderful benefits we are able to provide our partners is access to team volunteering opportunities nationally. Our volunteers are critical to delivery of our programs every day. In 2024 we sourced enough food for the equivalent of 92 million meals. With the help of volunteers we distribute food and groceries into the community to help feed individuals and families in need.

Volunteering can range from picking and packing food orders in our warehouses through to skilled volunteering in our offices around the country.

Volunteering at Foodbank means you’ll make a meaningful contribution, gain new skills or put old ones to good use, meet new people and help us distribute food for million people a month.

Workplace Giving is living proof that small change can make a big difference

Your donation will help families across Victoria

Workplace Giving provides charities like ours with the reliable income we need so we can reach more people, right across the state.

Regular donations also help us purchase the extra food we need when farmers and supermarkets can’t provide enough, meaning we can fill the gaps and reliably supply our community with the healthy, fresh food they deserve – and much, much more.

An easy way to change a lot by giving a little is through Workplace Giving.

Foodbank market hamper

Workplace Giving is also known as payroll giving and – you guessed it! – involves contributing regular and consistent donations through your workplace.

Employees donate a nominated, fixed portion of their pay on a regular basis – e.g. $25 a week, fortnight or monthly –to a charity like us.

The deduction is taken out pre-tax, so there’s no messy paperwork for you to fill out at the end of the financial year.

You can set this up in 3 simple steps:

  1. Complete the form above
  2. Submit your completed form to your organisation’s payroll team
  3. Confirm with your payroll team that they are able to process your Workplace Giving request and that a record of your donation can appear on your PAYG summary

Alternatively, your organisation may have registered with a third-party giving platform providing you with direct access to donate. Ask your Community Impact representative for more details.
