Volunteer With Foodbank
The Foodbank team is small and we rely heavily on teams and individuals who generously give their time to help us get food to the people who need it. We have different volunteer opportunities available in each state, if you would like to volunteer select your state below:
Volunteering your time is amazing
Foodbank SA & NT thrives on the dedication and contribution of our volunteer teams, with more than 150,000 people in need across South Australia and the Northern Territory relying on our services every month. Foodbank SA & NT has over 650 volunteers donating their time to ensure we can meet this demand.
In the 2023/24 financial year, 130,000+ hours were donated by volunteers to Foodbank SA & NT. We simply could not operate without volunteer support.
Warehouse Volunteers
The Foodbank South Australia warehouse in Edwardstown is the bustling heart of our organisation, where large donations of food and fresh produce are stored. Warehouse volunteers assist by packing orders, assisting welfare agencies with collecting orders, sorting groceries and packing fruit & vegetables. Light and heavy lifting can apply. This role suits an active, team player who likes to keep busy and get-things-done. Ability to understand and adhere to strict OH&S warehouse policies required. Shifts run from Monday to Friday 8.00 am – 2.00pm.
Food Hub Volunteers
Food Hub is a unique, small supermarket where clients of local welfare agencies can shop for their family. Food Hub volunteers assist by welcoming and assisting vulnerable clients, processing their shop on the computer system, and stocking the Food Hub shelves. This role would suit volunteers with fantastic people skills, customer service experience and who work well in a small, friendly team. An appreciation for client confidentiality and empathy for diverse clientele highly regarded. Light and heavy lifting can apply. Ability to understand and adhere to strict OH&S warehouse policies is also required. Food Hubs are in Edwardstown, Christies Beach, Elizabeth, Woodville, Murray Bridge, Mount Gambier, Whyalla, Alice Springs, Darwin and Ceduna. We also have two Mobile Food Hubs in operation across the state.
Transport Volunteers
Foodbank Drivers are out and about in Adelaide representing Foodbank South Australia; collecting donated food and groceries from donor companies and delivering to our welfare agencies and schools located in Adelaide’s metropolitan area. This role suits experienced transit van and truck drivers who are able to stick to a tight schedule and are happy to work autonomously if required. Heavy lifting is required. Vehicle and running costs provided by Foodbank South Australia. Shifts run from Monday to Friday 8.00 am – 2.00pm.
Events/Fundraising Volunteers
Foodbank South Australia attends and hosts a variety of exciting events each year. Event and Fundraising volunteers assist by promoting our organisation, raising awareness of people living in hunger right here in SA and collecting donations at sporting events, markets, shopping malls and shows. This role suits friendly, reliable and confident people to assist Foodbank South Australia in this vital role. Volunteers are encouraged to apply as a group for team building or even individuals and their mates wanting to make a difference. Shifts will be advised with plenty of notice and may be out of normal hours or on weekends.
Office Volunteers
The Foodbank South Australia office is a welcoming environment where our friendly staff work away behind the scenes – allowing our services to tick along smoothly. Office Volunteers play a vital role in supporting staff to get their work done, and in turn get the food out to people who need it. Duties can include data-entry, basic word processing, responding to public enquiries and varied ad-hoc office administration tasks. The role suits a friendly, focused volunteer with IT and office administration experience. Shifts times are flexible to suit your schedule.
Ambassador Volunteers
We are seeking volunteers to join our team who enjoy or want to develop their public speaking ability and are willing to become Foodbank Ambassadors, representing Foodbank South Australia at community events. Ambassadors will meet with and address community groups to create awareness and understanding about Foodbank South Australia operations and to gain support that would assist in increasing our reach of providing food to those in our community most in need. The role would suit a friendly, confident person with public speaking experience and great time-management. Experience with Power Point and AV equipment highly regarded. Ambassadors will require their own vehicle and a valid licence. Training will be provided and approved costs incurred to be reimbursed by Foodbank South Australia.
There are many ways Corporate Groups can get involved and support Foodbank.
