Park for a Purpose helps drive lasting change
More than 80 community leaders, business professionals, volunteers, supporters and people with lived experience
came together in September for Foodbank WA’s inaugural Park for a Purpose, a unique overnight event designed to spark meaningful conversations about some of the most pressing challenges facing Western Australian communities.
Held at Foodbank WA’s Perth Airport facility, the immersive experience invited participants to step away from their everyday routines and explore issues including food insecurity, housing insecurity, resilience and wellbeing.
Through a series of interactive workshops, thought-provoking discussions and lived experience presentations, attendees gained deeper insight into the realities faced by many people across the state.
Unlike a traditional fundraising event, Park for a Purpose encouraged guests to create their own journey throughout the evening, choosing from a range of sessions focused on both the challenges affecting vulnerable communities and the innovative solutions helping to build stronger, more connected and resilient communities.
One of the evening’s most memorable moments took place around the fire pits, where participants gathered to hear personal stories of hardship, resilience and hope. In a relaxed and informal setting, people connected through honest conversations that encouraged reflection, empathy and a greater understanding of the experiences of others.
The event also welcomed Year 12 students from Carey Baptist College Forrestdale as part of their Service-Learning Program. Their enthusiasm and commitment to engaging with important social issues highlighted the valuable role young people play in shaping positive change within their communities.
Park for a Purpose was made possible through the generous support of major partners Perth Airport and Skyfields by Perth Airport, presenting partners Brain & Cognitive Function Clinic and Perth Integrated Events Team, along with a wide network of community and corporate supporters.
A key focus of the event was raising funds for a new Mobile Foodbank vehicle, which will help expand access to affordable food and essential groceries for vulnerable communities across Western Australia.
We are pleased to share that more than $80,000 has already been raised towards the $200,000 goal, bringing Foodbank WA significantly closer to putting a third Mobile Foodbank on the road.
While fundraising efforts continue, the event has already demonstrated the power of bringing people together to learn, listen and take action. With continued community support, the new Mobile Foodbank will help extend Foodbank WA’s reach, ensuring more Western Australians can access the food and support they need, closer to where they live.
