Breakfast of champions: 10 years of Brekky Club

For the past 10 years, our School Breakfast Clubs Program has helped Victorian students start their day with full tummies, ready to learn. Foodbank has officially delivered a decade’s worth of breakfasts, making sure no child has to miss out on learning because they started the school day hungry.

Every morning, Foodbank Victoria helps turn sleepy yawns into bright smiles and loads of energy to learn by delivering a free, nutritious breakfast to hungry students all around the state. It ensures those who can’t access enough food outside school will never miss out on what they need.

Since teaming up with the Victorian Government in 2016, our School Breakfast Clubs Program has grown from 500 primary schools to almost 1,400 government schools, including primary, secondary, P–12 and specialist schools.

We’ve also expanded the program to include lunch options for identified students, so that they’re nourished beyond breakfast. And take-home packs to support students and families when the school day ends.

Over those last 10 years, we’ve delivered more than 65 million meals, including:
– 1,086,675 kilos of cereal
– 27,784,952 slices of toast
– 527,479 jars of Vegemite
– 4,481,062 kilos of apples – 4,481,062 kilos of apples

That’s a whole lot of breakfast, and a lot more besides. And a whole generation of Victorian children who’ve had a happier, healthier start to their school day.

Happy 10th birthday School Brekky Club!
