Beyond food relief Expanding financial wellbeing support at Foodbank
Every day at Foodbank WA’s Perth Airport branch, around 400 households seek assistance to put food on the table.
While food relief remains a critical source of support, many of the people we meet are also facing increasing financial pressures caused by rising grocery costs, fuel prices, rent, utility bills and unexpected expenses.
Foodbank wanted to build on the success of the current wrap around services delivered in collaboration with the Financial Wellbeing Collective (FWC), where a dedicated Financial Wellbeing Officer has been in our Perth and Bunbury branches over the past financial year. Apart from assessing clients’ needs and providing food relief access and vouchers, the Financial Wellbeing Officer is able to refer clients to financial counsellors who provide free, independent, confidential advice and advocacy to help people understand their options and improve their financial situation.
That’s why we’re excited to share that Beyond Bank Foundation has committed to funding the expansion of this important wrap around service for the next twelve months. The Financial Wellbeing Officer service at Foodbank Perth will now be available five days per week.
The timing of this support is particularly important. Many households continue to experience cost of living pressures, and further challenges are on the horizon with the Federal Government’s temporary fuel excise relief ending on 2 August 2026, potentially adding additional strain to already stretched household budgets.
By bringing food relief and financial wellbeing services together in one location, we can help people address both their immediate needs and longer-term financial stability.
Whether it’s assistance with budgeting, managing bills or accessing specialist support, Foodbank WA’s clients can access practical guidance alongside food relief in a safe and welcoming environment.
We are incredibly grateful to Beyond Bank Foundation for their commitment to helping Western Australians build stronger, more secure futures. Together, we’re ensuring that people facing difficult circumstances have access to the support they need to navigate challenges today while building resilience for tomorrow.
