Building food security in Leonora

The partnership brings together Foodbank WA, Glencore, Waalitj Foundation and Genesis Minerals, united by a shared commitment to ensuring local people can access emergency food support when they need it most. 

A major milestone has already been achieved, with the first Foodbank WA delivery arriving in Leonora.

The emergency food pantry now has a permanent home at Waalitj Foundation’s Leonora Hub, providing a locally accessible, community-focused service for residents experiencing hardship. 

The initiative has been made possible through the generous support of Genesis Minerals, which is providing freight services to help transport food to the remote region. This support ensures regular deliveries can reach the community and provide a reliable source of essential food assistance. 

There is strong optimism for the future of the program, following the success of a similar emergency food pantry in nearby Laverton. Since its establishment, the Laverton pantry has become a valued community resource, helping local residents access food relief in a safe and supportive environment. 

This partnership highlights the power of collaboration in addressing food insecurity and strengthening community wellbeing. By bringing together industry, community organisations and local leaders, the initiative is creating a sustainable model of support that will help improve food security for people in Leonora for years to come.
