New CEO Samantha Prescott driving operational resilience as she takes reigns at leading food relief organisation, Foodbank NSW & ACT
Media Release
The state and territory’s largest and most trusted food relief organisation, Foodbank NSW & ACT, is today welcoming their new Chief Executive Officer, Samantha Prescott.
With a wealth of experience in guiding their operation and supply chain, the organisation’s new leader will champion resilience and collaboration to drive the leading food relief charity towards their mission of ending hunger.
Mrs. Prescott takes over from long-serving CEO, John Robertson, who led the organisation for six years prior to stepping down in May.
Taking over the top job after four years as Chief Operating Officer, Mrs. Prescott has been at Foodbank NSW & ACT since joining as Support Services Manager in 2017, before moving into the role of General Manager.
Throughout her tenure, Mrs Prescott’s impact has been most visible during times of crisis.
When bushfires swept through NSW in 2019, she played a pivotal role in leading Foodbank’s large‑scale response, ensuring vital food relief reached affected communities as fast as possible.
In 2020, as COVID‑19 triggered an unprecedented surge in demand, the now-CEO led the organisation’s emergency response efforts.
Facing a 50 percent increase in demand within a single week and a significantly reduced workforce, Mrs. Prescott mobilised an emergency team which enabled the packing and delivery of 9,800 food hampers – supporting the same number of families at a time of profound uncertainty.
Now turning her focus to the growing cost of living crisis impacting communities across the state and territory, the CEO believes the role of Foodbank NSW & ACT’s growing supply chain is more important than ever in making sure no one goes hungry.
“John has built something truly special here, and I am committed to building on that foundation alongside the rest of the Foodbank NSW & ACT team,”
“A key strength of our organisation has long been our ability to respond with speed, scale and compassion to support communities in need.
“By continuing to strengthen our operational capacity through resilience and collaboration, I believe we can make a real and measurable difference to those doing it tough.
“Our mission, to provide essential food and grocery items to people who need it, is more important than ever, and I look forward to leading this work together with the team.”
