Financial Wellbeing support expands to Peel

Earlier this year, Alcoa Australia, Peel Thunder Football Club and Foodbank WA came together for the annual Charity Game, raising vital funds to support people in the Peel region experiencing financial hardship.

Thanks to the success of the event, Foodbank WA, in collaboration with Financial Wellbeing Collective, has expanded support for the local community by introducing a dedicated Financial Wellbeing Officer at its Peel branch.

Available every Tuesday, the service provides free, confidential, face-to-face assistance, complementing existing food relief services with personalised financial wellbeing support.

The Financial Wellbeing Officer works alongside Foodbank’s team to assess individual needs, connect people with food relief and emergency vouchers, and facilitate referrals to a broad range of support services. This includes access to qualified financial counsellors who provide free, independent and confidential advice and advocacy, helping people understand their options, address financial challenges and take positive steps towards greater financial stability.

The need for this service was evident from the very first day, with 25 clients accessing support. The strong initial response highlights the growing demand for practical, local and accessible financial wellbeing services within the Peel community.

By combining immediate assistance, such as food relief, with pathways to longer-term support, the initiative takes a holistic approach to addressing financial hardship. It not only helps people meet urgent needs but also builds resilience, strengthens financial capability and empowers individuals and families to make informed decisions about their future.

This service forms part of a broader partnership between Foodbank WA and the Financial Wellbeing Collective, which has also seen similar support services established at Foodbank’s Perth and Bunbury branches. Together, the organisations are helping more Western Australians access the right support, at the right time, in a welcoming and accessible environment.
