Goldfields food relief receives long-term boost

Foodbank WA is delighted that Northern Star has renewed its commitment to supporting our Goldfields services, extending its partnership for a further four years.

The renewed investment builds on a long-standing relationship between Foodbank and Northern Star, which has supported communities across regional Western Australia through food relief, volunteering and community initiatives.

Following its support of Foodbank programs in the Pilbara, Northern Star’s renewed commitment to the Goldfields will help increase access to affordable food and essential support for individuals and families across the region.

Together, we have set an ambitious goal to help deliver more than half a million meals across the Goldfields by 2030, ensuring people experiencing hardship can access nutritious food when they need it most.

The partnership will also support the delivery of Foodbank’s nom! Schools nutrition education program throughout Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the wider Goldfields, helping children, young people and families build practical food literacy skills and confidence in preparing healthy meals.

A significant outcome of the partnership will be the purchase of a new Mobile Foodbank vehicle, enabling us to expand outreach services and improve access to affordable food in regional and remote communities. Foodbank is exploring opportunities to extend services to Kambalda, Coolgardie and Norseman, while continuing support for Leonora, Laverton, Wiluna and surrounding areas.

Northern Star’s support will also ensure the continuation of the Summer Response Program, a collaborative initiative that brings community organisations together to provide practical support during the warmer months, when demand for services in Kalgoorlie-Boulder increases. Through the program, Foodbank Kalgoorlie works alongside local partners to provide food relief, bottled water, hygiene products and other essential assistance in a way that is culturally appropriate and accessible.

The renewed partnership demonstrates the impact of long-term community investment and a shared commitment to supporting the health, wellbeing and resilience of Goldfields communities.

The investment will help Foodbank WA increase access to food relief, expand mobile outreach services, deliver important nutrition education programs and continue collaborative community initiatives that make a meaningful difference to people experiencing hardship.

Through this partnership, Foodbank and Northern Star will continue working together to strengthen community connections, improve access to nutritious food and create lasting impact across the Goldfields, helping ensure more people have the food and support they need to thrive.
