The Foodbank Meat Program

Why it matters

Right now, millions of Australians are struggling to put food on the table, and at worst skipping meals or going whole days without eating.

The rising cost of living means more people are turning to food relief, and they’re needing support more often.

At Foodbank, we believe everyone should have access to good food, no matter their situation.

Last year alone, we sourced the equivalent of 92 million meals. But the need is still greater than the supply.

Keeping protein on the table

Meat is a crucial source of protein in a balanced diet, but when household budgets are tight, it’s often one of the first grocery items families cut. The Foodbank Meat Program ensures that Australians experiencing hardship still have access to high-quality protein.

How the program works

Our Protein Program works with the entire protein supply chain — from livestock producers and stock feed suppliers to transporters, processors, manufacturers, and packaging suppliers — to provide a reliable, regular supply of meat such as sausages and mince for those in need.

Contributions can be one-off or ongoing, large or small.

Every donation helps deliver a vital source of protein to Australians who would otherwise go without.
  • Support local communities: Donors are helping provide a valuable source of protein to those who may otherwise go without.
  • Support your industry: Collaboration involving producers, processors, manufacturers and transporters.
  • Strong return on investment: Foodbank’s relationships right along the food industry supply chain.
  • Tax Donation Receipt: We are a registered charity so we provide the donor with a Tax Donation receipt.
  • Foodbank operates and adheres to all food safety and handling standards and regulations.
  • All of our warehouses and operations have commercial or industrial refrigeration and freezer capacity and infrastructure.
  • Foodbank maintains cold chain throughout and only distributes frozen or chilled products to charity partners with audited and adequate chilled and frozen capacity and infrastructure and/or cooking facilities.

Partner feedback

Getting involved in this innovative supply chain that ensures a regular source of protein for Australians was an easy decision to make, and we really wanted to be part of it. We’re proud of our team and the role we are able to play via this program.>
