Expanding financial wellbeing support at Foodbank

Every day at Foodbank WA’s Perth Airport branch, around 400 households seek assistance to put food on the table.

While food relief remains a critical source of support, many of the people we meet are also facing increasing financial pressures caused by rising grocery costs, fuel prices, rent, utility bills and unexpected expenses.

That’s why we’re excited to share that the Beyond Bank Australia Foundation has committed funding this important service for the next twelve months, enabling us to expand our Financial Wellbeing Support service at Foodbank Perth from three days per week to five.

This investment builds on the success of our previous collaboration with the Financial Wellbeing Collective (FWC), which embedded a qualified Financial Wellbeing Support Officer at our Perth branch. The service provided clients with practical support through financial health checks, budgeting assistance, bill payment guidance and referrals to specialist financial support services.

Now, through our partnership with Beyond Bank Australia Foundation, we will be able to offer this valuable support five days a week, ensuring more people can access help when they need it most. The expanded service will also include access to specialist Financial Counselling at branch level at least one day per week, free of charge to clients.

The timing of this support is particularly important. Many households continue to experience cost of living pressures, and further challenges are on the horizon with the Federal Government’s temporary fuel excise relief due to end on 2 August 2026, potentially adding additional strain to already stretched household budgets.

By bringing food relief and financial wellbeing services together in one location, we can help people address both their immediate needs and longer-term financial stability.

Whether it’s assistance with budgeting, managing bills or accessing specialist support, clients can receive practical guidance alongside food relief in a safe and welcoming environment.
