Community engagement
 strengthens Goldfields ties

In Laverton, our Nutrition Education Team joined local NAIDOC Week celebrations, working alongside students, Elders and community members throughout a week of activities. From delivering school-based cooking sessions and healthy eating education to supporting community events, the visit reinforced the value of being present, building trust and creating opportunities for meaningful connection. The team also met with local organisations and stakeholders, further strengthening relationships that have continued to grow through regular engagement with the community. 

One of the most encouraging outcomes of the visit was the increasing familiarity between community members and our team. Local residents are now recognising team members by name, a small but significant reflection of the trust, consistency and genuine relationships that are being established over time. 

Students enthusiastically participated in cooking activities, Elders shared stories and knowledge over lunch, and community members gathered to celebrate culture, connection and community. These moments reinforced the importance of creating spaces where people feel heard, valued and included. 

The visit also provided an opportunity to support the local pantry operated by the Laverton Cross Cultural Association (LCCA). We worked alongside volunteers to unpack food deliveries and discuss opportunities to further strengthen local food security initiatives, ensuring the community can continue to access essential food support.

Meanwhile, our representatives also travelled to AngloGold Ashanti’s Tropicana operation to take part in the site’s annual Family Day celebrations. The event provided a valuable opportunity to connect with AngloGold employees and their families, share the impact of our work across Western Australia, and acknowledge the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting regional communities.

Together, the Laverton and Tropicana visits demonstrate the power of long-term partnerships built on respect, collaboration and shared purpose.
