Curtin Guild Pantry+ supports student wellbeing

Foodbank’s partnership with the Curtin University Guild Pantry+

continues to provide meaningful support to students experiencing financial hardship, offering both access to essential food supplies and practical education that helps students build confidence in the kitchen and better manage their food budgets.

The Guild Pantry+ is a free food support service available to currently enrolled Curtin University students.

Delivered through Student Assist, the Curtin Student Guild’s support and advocacy service, the Pantry provides access to everyday food and pantry essentials for students facing challenging financial circumstances.

Operating on a community-sharing model, the service encourages students to take what they need so that support can be shared across the wider student community.

Students can access the Pantry up to twice per semester, either through an in-person appointment or via a convenient click-and-collect service. Through the online ordering system, students can select up to 12 pantry items and collect their order from Guild Reception at a time that suits them. The flexible model has proven popular, with approximately 279 click-and-collect orders placed to date.

Demand for the service remains strong. According to Pantry booking records, 304 students accessed the Guild Pantry+ during Semester 1, with that number increasing to 355 students in Semester 2, highlighting the ongoing need for food relief and support among university students.

Complementing the Pantry service are Foodbank’s nom! sessions, which provide hands-on education around cooking, nutrition and budgeting. Across Semester 2, Foodbank delivered eight nom! sessions between August and October, covering topics such as Cooking on a Budget and Healthy Eating. The sessions give students the opportunity to prepare meals together, develop practical cooking skills and connect with fellow students in a welcoming environment.

A total of 36 students have participated in the sessions so far, and feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with the program receiving a perfect 10/10 overall rating. One student enthusiastically described the sessions as, “It’s goated man, you should come and try.” Another shared, “I learned about shopping within a set budget and where to look to help save money. I found the cooking session very helpful and beginner friendly.”

The strong engagement across both the Pantry+ service and the nom! program demonstrates the value of combining immediate food relief with practical education. By helping students access nutritious food while building skills that support long-term wellbeing, the partnership is making a lasting difference to the Curtin student community. With continued positive outcomes and strong demand, Foodbank has indicated its intention to continue delivering nom! sessions in 2027.
