Where to get food assistance in WA

Do you need food or help to afford groceries? From the moment you arrive, our team will be here to make things easy and ensure you feel genuinely welcome and supported.
Respect and compassion guide everything we do, and we’re here to make your experience at Foodbank a positive and enjoyable one.
You’ll need a referral to get started. It’s a simple process, and there are two ways you can begin.
Get a referral with a free call
To get a referral, you can free-call The Emergency Relief and Food Access Service on 1800 979 777. It’s open 9.30am – 5.00pm Monday to Friday (closed on public holidays).
The call takes about 20 minutes and will involve a few basic questions.
When you come to collect your referral at Foodbank WA, you’ll need to bring some form of ID to confirm your address and details.
Get a referral through a charity partner
To get a referral, you can also find a charity in your area using
- our Find Food tool or
- the WA Connect – on the website, click on “I am looking for assistance”. Select “Food” in and enter your suburb. Click search for a list of charities in your area that might be able to help you.

Tough times can happen to good people

How to visit Foodbank WA
You can visit us at one of our branches at Perth Airport, Peel, Bunbury, Albany, Kalgoorlie or Geraldton, listed at the bottom of this page. Our Mobile Foodbank also visits many suburbs in Perth and regional locations to provide community food support.
In Perth, public transport access is available from Bus Route 294 via High Wycombe Station. We are closed on weekends and public holidays.
If it’s your first-time visiting Foodbank WA, then this shopping guide will help you know what to expect.
What to bring
For your first visit please bring your referral letter and current photo ID. We accept referrals printed, emailed or on your phone. Please also let us know if you have a voucher.
We’ll give you a card you can show at our branches or Mobile Foodbank. This card is for you only, so please don’t lend it to anyone. You’ll need to show your Foodbank WA card every time you shop.
Handy tip: Remember to bring some shopping bags or boxes for putting your groceries into your car.
What’s it like to shop at Foodbank?
Our shop is like a low-cost supermarket. The food and groceries are in aisles and there’s a large selection to choose from. You might not see the same variety as a supermarket, but we always have the staples like pasta, rice, meat, and fruit and vegetables.
When you’ve finished shopping, go to the checkout and a volunteer will sort your groceries to weigh them. You can pay by EFTPOS. Please note we do not accept cash.
